Freemium dashboards

Freemium means the core product is free and a paid upgrade unlocks more, but what actually gets held back varies a lot between products, and it is worth knowing which kind before settling into a free plan you might outgrow.

Some products cap a number: start.me's free plan is limited to three pages, with ads shown alongside them, and PRO removes both the cap and the ads for $25 a year. Symbaloo does not cap what you can build; its free plan just carries ads, and Premium at $34.95 a year removes them. Momentum takes a third approach: the free tier is not capped or ad-supported at all, but a set of extra tools, task manager integrations, notes, tab groups, a deeper weather forecast, only exist on the $39.95-a-year Plus plan and nowhere in free.

Before settling on a free plan, it helps to know which of the three you are looking at: a usage cap you will eventually hit, ads you may want to remove, or features that were never in the free tier to begin with and will not appear no matter how long you use it.
